An inmate at the Welikada Prison has tested positive for Covid 19, Director General of Health Services Dr Anil Jasinghe confirmed today (07).
Rumours had been rife in recent days that a remand inmate had contracted Covid 19. Confirming the news, Jasinghe said the patient had been recently transferred to Welikada from the Kandakadu drug rehabilitation Center. He had arrived at Welikada on June 27.

Health authorities will now carry out PCR tests on other inmates and prison officials.
