In the ongoing conflict in, Israeli forces have carried out intense bombardments from the air, sea, and land, leading to dire humanitarian consequences. Despite directives for people in Gaza to move to the south, Israeli Air Forces continued to strike southern areas, including Khan Younis.
Water scarcity has become a critical issue, with the potential for lives to be lost due to dehydration and waterborne diseases. The situation has worsened with the collapse of water and sanitation services, including the shutdown of Gaza’s last seawater desalination plant. Although a limited water supply line was opened for three hours in the south of Gaza, it only reached half of the population in Khan Yunis, leaving most without access to clean water.
Fuel shortages are also impacting healthcare services, as fuel reserves at hospitals across Gaza are expected to last only 24 more hours. The shutdown of backup generators in hospitals could endanger thousands of patients.
The human toll of the conflict is devastating. According to the Palestinian Ministry of Health, 2,670 Palestinians have been killed in Gaza, with an average of 267 casualties daily. An additional 9,600 people have been injured. In Israel, 1,300 people have lost their lives, and over 4,000 have been injured.
UNRWA (United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees) is making efforts to provide humanitarian aid, but the scale of the crisis is overwhelming. Their health clinics are expected to run out of medicines in the coming month.
The displacement crisis is staggering, with around 1 million people displaced across Gaza. Nearly 400,000 of them are seeking refuge in UNRWA installations, with over 8,000 people at the UNRWA Rafah Logistics Base, where tensions are escalating.
In the West Bank, access and movement restrictions persist, and there is a concerning increase in settler violence. Since October 7, 58 Palestinians have been killed, and 1,176 have been injured, according to OCHA (United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs).
As the conflict rages on, the international community faces mounting pressure to address the dire humanitarian situation and find a resolution to the crisis that has already claimed the lives of thousands and displaced many more.
