The video related to the statement made by the Minister of Industry Wimal Weerawansa in Parliament that people in the isolated areas were not given the Rs. 5000 handout to be spent within a week is now being widely shared on social media.

“The people have spent the Rs. 5000 given and now left with nothing” he said. “It was not given to be spent within one week,” he added. The comments have now drawn widespread criticism and the video is being shared widely on social media.

The Minister was responding to a question posed by MP Mano Ganesan on the plight of people in locked down areas. People from Mutwal yesterday (21) also held a protest claiming they do not have food and other necessities after being declared an isolated area.
