Unprecedented cold weather in Sri Lanka takes 500 lives of cattles and goats!

Due to unprecedented cold weather prevailed across the Island nearly 500 dairy cows and goats have died in Kilinochchi area in Northern province The Sri Lanka Veterinary Association said.

The Secretary of Veterinary Officers’ Association Dr. Nuwan Hewagamage stated that 316 cattle and 170 goats have lost their lives.

Dead bodies of 165 milch cows and 07 goats have been found in Ponnagar area of Karachi Divisional Secretariat Division of Kilinochchi.

These cows and goats are lying dead everywhere in the cattle sheds as well as on the streets and farmers immediately have taken step to warming their animals by burning bonfires.

During the last two days in Kilinochchi, the ambient temperature was stated as 17 degrees Celsius.
