Thousands of trade union representatives, including professionals, will stage a huge protest at Hyde Park, Colombo, tomorrow in a bid to defeat the arbitrary and unjust tax policies of the government.

All medical treatment at private hospitals except for emergency services will come to a grinding halt, according to the Government Medical Officers Association. This will include the channel services as well.

Dr Haritha Aluthage, secretary of the GMOA, states that they are not against imposing taxes, but there should be a rational basis for that. However, they would agitate against tax policies that drive intellectuals out of the country, a tax that cannot be paid, tax policy that creates wage disparities, and an illegitimate tax policy that has no owner.

He said that if the government does not agree to a discussion in this regard, the professionals are ready to speak the same language that the government understands.
