The police brought out facts about a Heinous kidney scam to a magistrate.

The Colombo Crimes Division, which is investigating a kidney donation scam involving the Western Infirmary, reported the facts of a heinous “kidneys for money” racket to Colombo Additional Magistrate Rajindra Jayasuriya on Friday.

Sundarlingam Sharnia, a 34-year-old lactating mother from Sathiru Sevana Colombo, is the latest victim.

The magistrate was told by the investigators that four men and a woman were duped by the hospital authorities, who had promised them Rs. 15 million in exchange for a kidney.

However, after the kidneys were extracted, the victims were taken to a parking lot adjacent to the All Saints Church Borella, where a police inspector claiming to be from the Fraud Investigation Bureau allegedly threatened them and forced them to sign a document stating that they would not deal with the hospital. Thereafter, each of them was given 20,000 rupees and chased away.

The hospital is under the management of Dr. Mohammad Hussain Rizvi Sheriff. Although this hospital has been accused of organized kidney smuggling scams for a long time, no proper investigation has been carried out.

Once again, this kidney smuggling is being discussed with the disclosure made on a private channel that Borella Western Hospital is providing money to people from poor families.
