Tesla and SpaceX CEO Elon Musk has reportedly accepted an invitation from President Ranil Wickremesinghe to visit Sri Lanka to launch his Starlink satellite internet service, the Daily Mirror reported.
Musk met with President Wickremesinghe and his advisor on Climate Change, former MP Ruwan Wijewardene, yesterday (19th) in Bali, Indonesia. During the meeting, the President and Musk discussed a range of topics from renewable energy to Artificial Intelligence (AI), where Musk was invited to visit Sri Lanka.
The time frame for the visit has not been finalized by the government and Musk, the Daily Mirror reported. Quoting a source who spoke to the Daily Mirror, it was revealed that “It all depends on how Sri Lanka expedites the approval process, and as soon as it is done, Elon will arrive in Sri Lanka to launch Starlink. Tentatively, it was discussed that he will arrive in Sri Lanka at the end of the year.”
The President reportedly agreed to expedite the approval process to launch the Starlink service in Sri Lanka. According to Forbes, Musk’s net worth exceeds $196.3 billion, ranking him as the second richest person in the world. He co-founded six companies, including electric car maker Tesla, rocket producer SpaceX, and tunneling startup Boring Company.
Creating headlines, he bought Twitter in 2022 for $44 billion. He owns an estimated 74% of the company and changed the name of the platform to X. Musk is one of the pioneers in human colonization of Mars. He has openly stated that his life goal is to colonize Mars, and his private company SpaceX is currently working on several space programs to achieve this goal. He is also a pioneer in renewable energy, globally promoting solar energy to reduce the usage of coal and fossil fuels. Musk successfully produces globally renowned luxury electric cars and several other electric vehicles.
