The suspect who was connected with alleged recent robbery and a murder in Gampaha was shot dead by police when he tried to attack an OIC of Police last night at Maduruvita in Gampaha..
According to the police Police the dead suspect was wanted over a recent murder in Gampaha where a 30-year-old man was stabbed to death during a scuffle when the youth trying to prevent prevent a bag-snatching incident from two women at Akarawita in Gampaha. The dead suspects’s wife also involved in the robbery in that incident and she also was arrested together with his husband yesterday.
According to police, the suspect and a female came in a motorcycle and tried to snatch the handbags from the two women who were walking on the road recently.
The duo were caught to Gampaha Crime Investigation Division OIC and a policeman in Kotugoda area following a tip off.
At that time, the policeman opened fire at the man with his T-56 assault rifle, when he tried to attack the OIC .
The suspect died after being admitted to the Gampaha Hospital. The police also arrested the 26-year-old female accomplice.
