Sri Lankans trapped in Ethiopian war zone rescued

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs says that 38 Sri Lankans trapped in the war zone in the Tigris region in the northern part of Ethiopia have been released.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs says that the Sri Lankan embassy in Ethiopia has rescued the Sri Lankans from the war zone as a result of discussions with the United Nations.

Sri Lankans and foreigners from a number of other countries have been transported in a UN convoy from Tigris to Addis Ababa. The Sri Lankans who had been working in the Ethiopian garment industry will be repatriated in the near future.
