Revealing this, Agriculture Minister Mahindananda Aluthgamage has told the Sunday Times Newspaper that the government has to pay 75 percent of the value of the stock of organic fertilizer that has been rejected due to pathogens.

Minister Aluthgamage told the Sunday Times that Sri Lanka had to pay 75 percent of the total amount of US $ 8 million for the fertilizer, as we could not afford to damage the diplomatic relations that had been damaged by the fertilizer crisis.

He also said that a new consignment of fertilizer had to be imported from the Chinese company Qingdao Seawin Biotech.

“We bought a ton of this fertilizer for US $ 446. But they have increased the price, to $ 900 a ton. Therefore, the cancellation of the agreement we have already signed is another reason for the loss. The Chinese Fertilizer Company has agreed to take back the ship that arrived in the country and import the approved fertilizer after inspections. Sri Lanka has agreed to pay half of the relevant shipping charges, ”he added.
