Sri Lanka to ban wearing face veils in public

Sri Lanka is set to ban the wearing of face veils including burqas in public. The proposal has been included in the amendments to the Muslim law in Sri Lanka which has been presented to the cabinet. The law is set to be amended by November 2021.

It will also increase the minimum age for Muslim marriages to 18 and the bride will be allowed to sign the marriage contract as opposed to her guardian.
