The Sri Lanka Navy arrested 10 Indian fishermen and seized their fishing vessel on 13 January for allegedly engaging in illegal fishing in Sri Lankan waters off the coast of Delft Island.
Navy sources said the fishermen had reportedly departed from the Rameswaram Fisheries Harbour in India before entering Sri Lankan waters.
The arrested fishermen and the vessel were taken to the Karainagar Naval Base for further investigation. They are due to be handed over to the Department of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources and produced before court in due course.
