Sri Lanka Cricket’s Selection Committee Contemplating Captaincy Changes

The new selection committee, led by Upul Tharanga, for Sri Lanka Cricket is reportedly in the early stages of discussions regarding potential changes in team captaincy. However, the premature circulation of these discussions on social media has raised concerns within the cricketing community.

According to social media reports, the selection committee is considering appointing three captains for Tests, ODIs, and T20Is. The proposed changes include transferring the Test captaincy from Dimuth Karunaratne to Dhananjaya de Silva. Additionally, Dasun Shanaka might be replaced, with Kusal Mendis and Wanindu Hasaranga taking over the captaincy for ODIs and T20Is, respectively.

It is further reported that Kusal Mendis is expected to be appointed as the vice-captain of the Test team, working alongside Charith as the vice-captain for the T20Is and ODIs.

The selection committee is anticipated to make final decisions during its upcoming meeting next week, where the squad for Zimbabwe’s ODIs and T20Is is expected to be finalized.
