Speaker bans mobile phones at voting !

Speaker Mahinda Yapa Abeywardena requested this morning all MPs to refrain from carrying mobile phones to the polling place and displaying ballot papers after casting their votes during the voting to elect the successor president.

The Speaker also stated that taking a photograph of the ballot paper with a mobile phone is a violation of the constitution according to section 63 of the constitution and also informed that two officers have been appointed to hand over the mobile phones if they are taken to the place by mistake.

A few moments ago, he started the parliamentary session for the election of the 8th Executive President and requested the MPs to behave with restraint until the end of the voting in accordance with the decrees for the election of the President mentioned in the constitution.
