The group of MPs have informed the President not to use the opportunity to dissolve Parliament at this juncture, and if it is dissolved, the government will walk into a serious political crisis.

The MPs have said that the presidential election should be held first, and it does not matter who the candidate would be.

Meanwhile, both the United National Party and Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna (SLPP) have launched party reorganisation work at the village level to revamp the respective party networks.

Accordingly, Basil Rajapaksa from the SLPP and Ranil Wickremesinghe from the United National Party has started political work in the respective constituencies.

However, it is reported that these two parties have already reached an unofficial agreement to compete under a joint alliance in the upcoming elections.
