The main opposition Samagi Jana Balawegaya has decided to boycott Parliament today (06) as well.

The decision was taken by a group meeting of parliamentarians yesterday due to mistrust in democratic politics due to threats from the ruling party in Parliament last Friday and Saturday party spokesman said.

According to party sources, the SJB parliamentary group has decided to stage a protest from outside the parliament until the situation is resolved.

Before MP Manusha Nanayakkara could finish his speech in Parliament, Minister of State Kanchana Wijesekera had come to the Opposition lobby and shouted obscene words, “Come on man … come on … I will hit you.” At that time, the Opposition MPs went to MP Kanchana Wijesekera and tried to send him out of the Opposition lobby, but he was behaving in a violent manner.

At that moment, Manusha Nanayakkara and Kanchana Wijesekera had come out of another door of Parliament avoiding him.

When MP Manusha Nanayakkara was approached by the Speaker yesterday to inquire into the matter as he was not given the due time to speak in Parliament, Minister Johnston Fernando.

Minister of State Kanchana Wijesekera had come there and pushed MP Manusha Nanayakkara.

Speaking in Parliament yesterday, Minister of State Kanchana Wijesekera said that if he had attacked Manusha Nanayakkara the previous day, he would not be here today to speak.
