Ven. Galwewa Siridhamma Thera, who was detained under the Prevention of Terrorism Act (PTA) for 89 days, was today ordered to be released on bail by the Colombo Chief Magistrate’s Court.
Colombo Additional Magistrate T. N. L. Mahawatta made this decision following the Attorney General’s advice to release him on bail.
However, the Attorney General’s Department did not seek any order in relation to Wasantha Mudalige, the Convener of the Inter University Students’ Federation (IUSF), who is currently in remand custody under the provisions of the PTA.
Ven. Siridhamma Thera was ordered to be released on two sureties of Rs. 500,000 and further ordered to refrain from making any statement regarding the court proceedings.
