SLT share divesting will not happen before June 15th: The Treasury Secretary assures the Supreme Court

The Treasury Secretary today gave an undertaking before the Supreme Court that shares at Sri Lanka Telecom (SLT) owned by the government of Sri Lanka will not be sold before June 15. The Attorney General appearing on behalf of the Treasury Secretary further pledged that the divesting process which is in progress would be carried out through lawful means,

The Attorney General informed to the court today when a Fundamental Rights petition filed seeking an order restraining the Treasury Secretary from taking any steps to divest the shares held by him in Sri Lanka Telecom PLC was taken up for support. The Petition was taken up by the Supreme Court three-judge-bench headed by Justice Gamini Amarasekara and the petition was fixed for support on June 15 by

President of Sri Lanka All Telecommunication Employees Union J. B. Gurusinghe and its General Secretary Kamalanath Hettiarachchi filed this petition against the decision taken in principle by the Cabinet of Ministers to divest the shares of the SLT held by the Secretary to the Treasury.
