Pujapitiya Police have arrested seven suspects accused of sexually abusing a minor repeatedly for over a period of time. The victim is said to be a 14-year-old girl from Kandy. Police are currently carrying out further investigations to nab three more suspects connected to the incident.
The minor had been admitted to the Kandy Teaching Hospital last week after suffering from a sudden illness. The child had been subjected to a medical examination following which it was revealed she had been abused.
Police said the men had abused the girl for nearly six months. According to Police sources the main suspect, a 29-year-old male had first approached the girl and lured her with gifts including a mobile phone. He had then entrapped the girl and subjected her to severe sexual abuse along with a number of his friends.
