Senadhipathi acquitted in Avant-Garde armoury case

Avant-Garde Chairman Major Nissanka Senadhipathi and seven other suspects were acquitted today (20) in the trial at the bar of the Colombo High Court in connection with the operation of a floating armoury near the Galle Harbor.

High Court Judges Manjula Tillekeratne, Aditya Patabendige and Mahen Weeraman delivered the judgment in the case filed by the Attorney General’s Department on 19 charges.

The Attorney General had withdrawn some of the charges filed in connection with the firearms depot and acquitted and released the suspects as their actions were in accordance with Sri Lankan law.

Mr Janaka Bandara appeared for the Attorney General’s Department in this case while several lawyers including President’s Counsels Sampath Mendis, Kuvera de Seiya and Ajith Pathirana appeared for the defendant
