Second Parliament Reporter Tests Positive For Covid

Beginning of a parliament Covid cluster?

A second reporter covering parliament sessions has tested positive for Covid 19 according to the Director of Communications of the Parliament Shan Wijetunge. The news comes following a reporter of an English weekly newspaper tested positive for Covid on Thursday (29). He is currently receiving treatment at the Matugama Hospital. 

According to sources the second media personnel to test positive is a female journalist from a leading Sinhala language newspaper. Both journalists had covered the debates on the 20th amendment to the constitution.

Party Leaders in Parliament who met for a special meeting at the Parliament Complex on Thursday decided to limit next week’s sittings of Parliament to one day due to the COVID -19 pandemic, the Parliament Communication Department said.

Parliament will convene on Tuesday, November 3 from 10 am to 12 noon only and on that day two Regulations under the Medical Ordinance will be taken up for debate.

 The Regulations were submitted by Health Minister Pavithra Wanniarachchi.

It has also been decided not to allow the media to enter the Parliament premises to cover Parliamentary sittings next week.
