As IGP Chandana Wickramaratne is set to retire in March next year upon reaching 60 years of age, a certain senior DIG with the ambition of securing the coveted position of Police Chief has planned a publicity blitz in his favour to gain mileage.
According to reports, all senior superintendents of police and other senior officers in the province where he works have been summoned and instructed to provide media reports that highlight his accomplishments.
It has also been revealed that the Senior Deputy Inspector General has compiled a list of police officers who should be considered and punished immediately after he assumes office as the Inspector General of Police.
This SDIG, who is currently on a political pilgrimage to get the post of Inspector General of Police, met the Prime Minister the other day and expressed his desire to secure the position. The Prime Minister has stated that he can only consider the request if the serious allegations against him are settled and cleared.
However, police sources say that the SDIG concerned has not been able to meet with the president so far, although he has sought an appointment to do so.
