Sapugaskanda refinery shuts down from Monday!

The Sapugaskanda Oil Refinery will be closed from January 3, 2022, the Ministry of Energy announced today (30).

The Ministry said in a statement that the refinery will be closed due to problems in purchasing crude oil due to the foreign exchange crisis in Sri Lanka.

The Ceylon Petroleum Corporation (CPC) is looking into the resumption of the Sapugaskanda Oil Refinery before January 30, 2022, after receiving the required crude oil supply, the Ministry said.

The Ministry of Energy has assured that there will be no fuel shortage in Sri Lanka due to this.

The Sapugaskanda Oil Refinery was previously closed for 50 days in November 2021 due to the foreign exchange crisis.
