Rugby veteran father and Royalist Cricketer son succumb to Covid together

Sulki Hameed, a former Royal College cricketer, and his father Ibrahim Hameed’ who was a great rugby player in Sri Lanka have succumbed to Covid in two consecutive days.

Sulki Hameed was a strong player who represented the Royal College Cricket team from 1991-92. Zulkie, the team’s wicket-keeper and a prolific batsman, in the 1992 Royal St. Thomas’ final. He also served on the College Cricket Committee.

Zulki’s father, Ibrahim Hameed was a strong rugby player at Zahira College, Maradana. In 1971, he captained the Police Rugby team. He ended his career as a Senior Superintendent of Police. Sri Lanka’s first executive president J.R. He was Jayewardene’s chief security officer.
The father and son, who were both respected athletes as well as good citizens, were being treated at Nawaloka Hospital for Covid infection.
