Matale District Parliamentarian Rohini Kumari Wijeratne has expressed concern over the sudden change of local government representatives by party leaders, which has confused within the party. This situation has arisen even though a committee, including the party’s General Secretary, had already selected local government representatives following the conclusion of the local government elections.

According to constituency organizers, a thorough assessment was carried out when selecting representatives for local government institutions. This included evaluating the members’ commitment to the party, the percentage and number of votes they received, and their qualifications to be elected in the relevant provinces.

Wijeratne pointed out that it is problematic for a group of party officials to overturn those decisions after the candidates were selected, the list was prepared based on the committee’s recommendations, and discussions were held with the chosen members.

She stated that she hopes to resolve the issue through discussions within the party.
