Revised Bail Request for Former Health Minister Keheliya Rambukwella Dismissed

Deputy Solicitor General Lakmini Girihagama, representing the Attorney General’s office, urged Colombo High Court Judge Sujeewa Nishanka to dismiss the bail request for former Health Minister Keheliya Rambukwella. The request, filed by Rambukwella’s legal team, lacked essential documents, leading to the Deputy Solicitor General’s call for its dismissal.

Rambukwella, along with seven others, faces allegations related to the misappropriation of government funds amounting to crores of rupees in connection with the Immunoglobulin Human Immunization Vaccine scandal. Following their arrest by the CID Police, they were remanded pending further investigation and trial.

Despite a previous bail request being denied by Maligakanda Magistrate Lochani Abewickrama, the suspects sought bail under any condition. However, the magistrate upheld the decision to keep the defendants remanded until the conclusion of the trial.

In response, the suspects lodged a revised bail request with the High Court. Yet, Deputy Solicitor General Lakmini Girihagama highlighted the absence of necessary documentation during the hearing, prompting the call for dismissal.
