Former President Ranil Wickremesinghe, who was receiving treatment at the Colombo National Hospital, was discharged this afternoon (29). Although released from the hospital, he has been advised by doctors to continue resting at home, where his condition will be closely monitored by his family physicians.
Mr. Wickremesinghe was remanded on Friday (22) by the Colombo Fort Magistrate in connection with a case related to a private visit to London while returning to Colombo after completing official visits to the United States and Cuba. Upon his arrival at the prison, he was immediately transferred to the prison hospital due to health concerns.
The following day, he was admitted to the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) of the Colombo National Hospital. Despite his critical condition, he joined court proceedings via Zoom from the ICU before being granted bail by the magistrate on Tuesday (26).
Hospital sources said that he was transferred from the ICU to a normal ward last evening (28) and was officially discharged today.
Wickremesinghe, Sri Lanka’s eighth Executive President and the country’s longest-serving Prime Minister, remains under medical supervision as he continues his recovery at home.
