The Chairman of the Public Utilities Commission (PUCSL), Janaka Ratnayake, has said that the CEB will be divided into six sections and shall come under the purview of six General Managers.

He was briefing the media outlining the programme to restructure the CEB. He said that no structural changes are possible in the CEB due to the mafia-like operations of electrical engineers.

He also said.

When we talk about the CEB, we have to talk about the Mafia. The CEB is similar to Guzman, the big-time Mafia leader. The CEB behaves like a big-time mafia leader when one talks about the CEB.

It is because of the way engineers behave. The CEB cannot go ahead any further with that system.

It is a daunting task to do any restructuring with them. The CEB engineers oppose anything for the sake of opposing it.

That is to show their professional clout.

We want to protect this institution and make it efficient to provide the service required by the public. “

The Electricity Board will have six affiliated institutions.

It is not privatization.

The six institutions will come under six General Managers.

The general managers are the ones who administer it.

They must run those institutions as viable concerns.

The restructuring is a must.

Restructuring is necessary to achieve financial discipline.

Or it is going to be like a black hole.

In case I invest Rupees hundred billion today.

I do not know where it would go ”. Said the Chairman of the Public Utilities Commission.
