PUCSL appeals to the general public to conserve electricity to provide uninterrupted electricity to the students sitting for the A-level exam.

The Public Utilities Commission of Sri Lanka has appealed to the public to reduce electricity consumption and help them provide uninterrupted electricity supply for the students who are scheduled to sit for the GCE A-level examination.

In a statement, the Public Utilities Commission said it initiated a program to manage the electricity demand to continuously supply electricity during the night until February 17, when the examination is held.

The program aims to reduce the electricity demand between 6 p.m. and 10 p.m. and save about 350 megawatts of capacity.

The Public Utilities Commission of Sri Lanka points out that by saving that volume of electricity, it would be possible to provide uninterrupted electricity during the night until February 17, when the examination will be held.

The Public Utilities Commission of Sri Lanka requests that government institutions and the private sector take the following measures to reduce electricity consumption, enabling students to sit for the examination without any hindrance.

  1. Domestic Sector: All customers can reduce their demand by 50 per cent between 6 p.m. and 9 p.m. to help manage electricity demand.

  1. Private Institutions: between 6 p.m. and 10 p.m., they may assist by turning off the lights of their neon sign boards, name boards, and showrooms.

  1. switching off the street lights between 6 p.m. and 10 p.m. by street lamp management agencies, including local authorities.

  1. Electricity consumers with generators and batteries can procure electricity from generators and batteries between 7 p.m. and 10 p.m.

According to the Public Utilities Commission, if you contribute to the above four-step electricity conservation program and reduce electricity consumption, it will be possible to save about 350 megawatts of electricity so that electricity can be supplied at night until February 17, when the examination will be held.
