Professor Ashoka Dangolla from the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine at the University of Peradeniya has decided to request the Magistrate’s permission for a surgical operation to remove remaining iron balls and powder from the injured Seetha elephant.
After visiting Seetha in Maharagama and observing a decline in her activity, the professor concluded that the bullets and iron powder in her body might be contributing to her condition.
Expressing concern that Seetha may have bullets in her chest cavity, the professor emphasized that she might not be able to participate in processions until the foreign objects are removed. Additionally, he mentioned ongoing Ayurvedic treatments to aid in the healing of Seetha’s wounds from previous surgeries.
Professor Dangolla also addressed concerns about a shortage of elephants for processions due to the fear of owners to provide the elephants, urging responsible parties to make prompt decisions.
