Education Minister Susil Premajayantha told Parliament today that the evaluation of the A-Level answer scripts, which has been delayed for more than two months, will begin today (April 25).

“Yesterday, the Commissioner of Examinations informed me that the professors in charge of a question paper have started work on 10 question papers.” Other activities are planned to start today.

Also, I received a copy of a letter from the University Teachers’ Association elaborating on certain matters. I sent them a positive reply. Accordingly, I think that issue will be resolved today. That is what the examination commissioner informed me.” the minister told parliament.

The minister said that the examination of the answer scripts was scheduled to start on February 22 and that he intervened in this issue in the first week of February. In order to avoid these delays

The Minister said that the Ministry of Education has accomplished everything that should be done on the part of the Prime Minister and that the delay arose because of three issues outside of their scope.

He said that the stipend given to the teachers for the evaluation of answer scripts was not enough, so the stipend was increased from 175 rupees to 2000 rupees. By now, everything has been prepared for the evaluation of the answer scripts in consultation with all teachers’ associations.

Talking about the problems presented by the University Teachers’ Association, the minister said that all measures that could have been taken at the ministerial level were taken in relation to those problems.
