The Health Ministry has decided to vaccinate all pregnant mothers above 18 years of age against COVID-19. Pregnant mothers who are their second and third trimesters.
Health Ministry has issued relevant circulars to all provincial directors in this regard. Dr Asela Gunawardene Director General of Health Services said those pregnant women are eligible to get the vaccine irrespective of any risk status in their pregnancies.

The decision was taken as the Ministry was in the receipt of sufficient stocks of vaccines and the adaption of a general population coverage approach in the Covid vaccination drive.
