The Batticaloa High Court today (Jan. 13) acquitted Pillayan alias Sivanesathurai Chandrakanthan, a Member of Parliament for the Batticaloa District, in the murder case of former TNA MP Joseph Pararajasingam.

Joseph Pararajasingam was shot dead while attending a service at St. Mary’s Church in Batticaloa on December 25, 2005. Sivanesthurai Chandrakanthan alias Pillayan, who was arrested on suspicion of involvement in the incident, was remanded for four years and was released on bail on November 24.

When the case was taken up in the Batticaloa High Court on Monday (11) before Judge D.Suisaidasan, the AG’S Department informed the court that it had no intention of taking the case forward. Following this the court informed that the judgment of the case will be given today (13).

Four other suspects arrested and remanded in connection with the incident were also released today.
