The people of Jaffna granted assistance to the Myanmar boat people

Boat people from Myanmar involved in an accident in the middle of the seas off the northern seacoast have received millions of rupees in assistance from various organizations in the north.

On behalf of the 105 people who are currently detained in the Jaffna prison on the orders of the court, MECIDA, an organization operating in the north, has offered 2 million rupees as material aid.

Under the leadership of Jaffna Municipal Council Member Loha Dayananda, a large stock of medicines has been given to these victims, valued at five hundred thousand rupees.

The North East Rehabilitation Organization has given another 800,000 rupees in assistance to the Jaffna Prison Superintendent to provide these residents with the necessary essentials.

Several other Tamil political parties and voluntary organizations in the north have also made arrangements to support the people of Myanmar.
