A police constable and a civilian have been arrested for allegedly aiding and abetting the hiding of suspended Inspector General of Police (IGP) Deshabandu Tennakoon. The arrests were made concerning Tennakoon’s disappearance between February 27 and March 19.
The constable, attached to the Special Security Division and a resident of Thalawathugoda, was taken into custody on suspicion of assisting Tennakoon in evading authorities.
Tennakoon, who was suspended from his post as the country’s top police officer, was arrested earlier this month following allegations of misconduct. His suspension came amid an ongoing investigation into his role in various cases, including accusations of abuse of power.
Authorities continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding his disappearance and whether more individuals were involved in aiding him.
