Parliamentary council recommends C.D Wickramaratne as 35th Inspector General of Police

The parliamentary council which met today (23) has recommended that Acting IGP C.D Wickramaratne be appointed as Sri Lanka’s 35th Inspector General of Police. 

President Gotabhaya Rajapaksa had nominated Wickramaratne for the Inspector General of Police post.

Senior DIG C.D. Wickramaratne has been functioning as the Acting Inspector General of Police after former Inspector General of Police (IGP) Pujith Jayasundara was sent on compulsory leave following the Easter Sunday attacks last year.

The council met today under the patronage of Speaker Mahinda Yapa Abeywardena. The Parliamentary Council, chaired by the Speaker, comprises the Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa, Leader of the Opposition Sajith Premadasa, Prime Minister’s representative Minister Douglas Devananda and parliamentarian Kabir Hashim as the Opposition Leader’s representative. Dhammika Dasanayake, Secretary General of Parliament is the Secretary.
