No shortage of chicken meet as for now- Retailers are the culprits – Poultry producers

The convener of the National Animal Producers Union, Sujeewa Dhammika, says that there is an artificial shortage of chicken meat created in the country, and even though the traders are selling the chicken at varying prices, there has been no change in the prices of the chicken meat issued by the producers.

He says that while producers are providing chicken at the same price as earlier, traders are selling chicken at a higher price due to increasing demand.

According to the current prices, a kilo of skinned chicken meat is sold for 950 rupees, and a kilo of skinless chicken meat is sold for up to 1200 rupees.

However, the National Animal Producers’ Union says that even if poultry meat production continues without issue with the same production capacity during this festive season, there will be an imminent shortage of chicken meat next June or July due to the practical problems, including the shortage of chicks.
