Nagananda files FR seeking repatriation of Sri lankans stranded abroad

A fundamental rights petition was filed before the Supreme court today seeking an order to be issued directing the Sri Lankan government to facilitate the repatriation of Sri Lankan citizens stranded abroad. The petition was filed by Attorney at Law and activist Nagananda Kodituwakku. 

The petitioner has noted that a large number of Sri Lankans, particularly migrant workers are stranded in the middle east and are facing severe hardships. He also noted that 40 Sri Lankans living abroad have lost their lives to the Covid 19 pandemic to date. According to him the government has been vested with the power to repatriate citizens under the constitutions.

Nagananga has named the Attorney- General, Minister of Health, and the Director of the Department of Immigration and Emigration as respondents.
