According to a press release today, the Ministry of Defense has extended the deadline for licensed firearm holders to return their firearms and ammunition from November 7, 2024, to November 21, 2024.
In a prior announcement on October 6, 2024, the Ministry instructed all license holders to return firearms and ammunition, issued for personal protection, to the Commercial Explosive Firearms and Ammunition Procurement Unit (CEFAP) at the Sri Lanka Navy camp in Welisara by November 7. However, in response to requests from various parties—including licensees currently abroad—and due to insufficient time to notify all licensees by formal letters, the Ministry has decided to extend the deadline. All licensees will also be formally notified of this extension in writing.
