It is reported that the Acting Consultant in Forensic Medicine at the Mahiyanganaya Base Hospital lodged a complaint with the police yesterday (05) regarding an unusual video recording of her car by a hospital employee and an unknown individual while it was parked within the hospital premises.
The doctor had previously filed a complaint with the Mahiyanganaya Police on December 02 alleging harassment by the hospital’s Medical Superintendent. She had also informed police that when she went to the location to gather information, a hospital employee, believed to be a close associate of the Medical Superintendent — was seen recording her vehicle on video. However, the employee had immediately fled the scene.
It is further reported that the complaint filed against the Acting Forensic Specialist, which includes allegations of attempted assault and threats by the Medical Superintendent, has not yet been taken up for investigation.
When the doctor visited the Mahiyanganaya Police Station yesterday (05) to file a complaint regarding the video recording incident, police officers were reportedly reluctant to register it. The matter was then brought to the attention of the Mahiyanganaya Senior Superintendent of Police, who intervened and facilitated the lodging of the complaint.
Upon returning to the hospital after submitting the complaint, the Medical Superintendent had sent a clerk requesting her official seal, which she refused to hand over.
In light of these developments, the Acting Judicial Medical Officer has written to the Director General of Health Services requesting an immediate transfer, stating that continuing to work at the hospital poses a risk to her life, health sources told Lankasara.
Meanwhile, health sector sources further reveal that a ministerial-level investigation is currently underway into allegations of professional misconduct by the Medical Superintendent, who has served at the Mahiyanganaya Base Hospital for 10 years.
