Litro Chairman not ready to hold the responsibility for gas blasts

Theshara Jayasinghe, chairman of Litro, says he is not ready to take any responsibility for the gas explosions. He said this while participating in a TV talk show on Hiru TV.

He points out that he has not changed the composition in a harmful way since he became the chairman of Litro last July, and that he has been correcting the damaged composition according to the standards imposed by Standard Institute.

He said that he refrained from commenting on the matter for a limited period of time on the advice of the Committee of Inquiry into Gas appointed by the President to prepare the background for the proper conduct of the investigation.

He says that even after changing the composition of the gas, between 25 and 30 cases of gas explosions have been reported and this should be looked into from another angle.

He also said that since there is an insurance cover of one million rupees for each gas cylinder, a victim can call 1311 and avail himself of that insurance.
