Recently Covid infected Lion, Thor at the Dehiwala Zoo has contracted pneumonia due to a bacterial infection Prof Sunil Chandra, Senior Professor, Department of Microbiology, Ragama Medical Faculty, has stated.
Thor, who had previously been infected with the coronavirus, recovered after receiving medical treatment, but the lungs become weakened due to the covid infection, in which case the bacteria are more likely to infect the lungs, the professor said.
According to Prof. Sunil Chandra, pneumonia caused by bacterial infections cannot be prevented and it is common to both animals and humans.
It is said that the veterinarians at the Thor Zoo have already started providing the necessary treatment.
However, the professor said he was concerned about the health of Thor’s lioness, which was infected with the Covid virus
