Kuwait Airways suddenly suspends Colombo rides

Kuwait Airways has abruptly suspended its Sri Lankan operations and another major airline is considering suspending operations in Sri Lanka, the Sunday Times reports.

It is believed that the abrupt abandonment of the air line has that had considerable passenger capacity in bound and out bound of Sri Lanka was due to high landing costs and prevailing foreign resereve crisis.

Kuwait Airlines is a relatively low cost airline and is the preferred airline by most people working in the Middle East which flew once a week to Sri Lanka after the resumption the operations in last September.. A significant number of tourists are also arriving in Sri Lanka through this airline.

The current crisis for many airlines is that they are no paid fares due from local dealers and General Sales Agents on time. It is said that the reason for this situation is the difficulty they have in getting dollars from Banks.
