Cabinet Approves Key Appointments to Major Departments

The Cabinet of Ministers has approved significant appointments to key positions in the Department of Civil Defense, the Office of the Land Commissioner General, and the Office of the Commissioner General of Agriculture.
Director General of Civil Defense
With the post of Director General of the Department of Civil Defense vacant, retired Major General K. H. P. Palitha Fernando has been appointed to the position. The appointment, proposed by the President in his capacity as Minister of Defense, takes effect immediately. Major General Fernando will serve on a contract basis for one year.
Land Commissioner General
The Cabinet also approved a resolution from the Minister of Agriculture, Livestock, Lands, and Irrigation to appoint R. A. Chandana Saman Ranaweera Arachchi, a special grade officer in the Sri Lanka Administrative Service (SLAS), as the Land Commissioner General.
Commissioner General of Agriculture
Dr. Mrs. E. R. S. P. Edirimanne has been appointed as the Commissioner General of Agriculture. Currently serving as Additional Secretary (Agri Technology) in the Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock, Lands, and Irrigation, Dr. Edirimanne’s appointment was also recommended by the Minister of Agriculture.
These appointments are expected to enhance the efficiency and effectiveness of these vital government departments, ensuring stronger leadership and better service delivery.
