Karapitaya Onco surgeon granted bail !

The Galle Magistrate’s Court today (22) granted bail to release Consultant Oncology surgeon of Karapitiya Dr. Krishantha Perera, who was remanded and accused of assaulting a minor employee of the Karapitiya Teaching Hospital.
Considering the bail application produced by his lawyers including President counsel case was called today, a team including President’s counsel Anuja Premaratne and attorney-at-Law Prasitha Walgama the magistrate granted bail.

On a complaint made by a junior employee of the hospital that she was assaulted in an incident arising out of a problem with the junior employees of the hospital who went on strike to get the DAT allowance given to the doctors despite an agreement that the employees of the oncology unit would not join for industrial action. The specialist was taken into police custody.

He was arrested after the hospital’s junior staff staged an off-duty protest demanding his arrest.

Without investigating the police complaints made by the expert doctor that he was also assaulted by 03 minor employees, the police proceeded to arrest him in connection with the alleged incident of assaulting a minor staff member.
