Minister Johnston Fernando had also reportedly noted that the government will have to pay more if the construction is deliberately delayed. The Minister had sternly said the government would not pay extra if the contractor delays the work in the hopes of charging more from the Sri Lankan government.

Construction work on the Central Expressway-Kadawatha-Mirigama section of the Central Expressway, which had not been commissioned for five years by a good governance government without awarding tenders and advances, was commenced on the instructions of the President and Prime Minister after the payments of Rs. 16.67 Billion recently.

The Minister had also instructed the company to complete the construction of this road within three years.

However, it is regrettable that this is causing such inconvenience to the people when the government has even paid advances at a time of a global epidemic, the Minister added.
