Jaffna-India ferry service to be resumed

 

All necessary arrangements have been made to resume the ferry between Kankasanthurai in Jaffna and Karalkai in India from April 29. The Indian Ministry of External Affairs has announced

The two governments, India and Sri Lanka will set up two immigration offices at the two entry and exit points shortly, Minister Nimal Sirpala de Silva pointed out.

According to the arrangements, a company called Inter Sri will operate the ferry service, and there will be no intervention by the two countries at the initial stages.

The ferry can accommodate 150 passengers at a time with 100kg of baggage per person, and the price is fixed at $50 per person.

Minister Nimal Siripalada Silva said that it has not been decided whether there should be a subsidy for the passengers.
