The Department of Meteorology has issued a concerning forecast for several districts in Sri Lanka, predicting scorching temperatures ranging from 39 to 45 degrees Celsius for today (28). The affected regions include Mullaitivu, Vavuniya, Trincomalee, Anuradhapura, Polonnaruwa, Batticaloa, Ampara, Badulla, and Monaragala districts.
In response to this situation, the health department has issued advisory guidelines to the public. To mitigate the risks associated with extreme heat, individuals are urged to stay hydrated by drinking an ample amount of water. Seeking shade whenever possible is recommended to avoid prolonged exposure to the intense heat.
Special attention should be given to vulnerable groups, including young children, the elderly, and those with preexisting health conditions.
