Government in a hurry to import 400 vehicles including 225 Prado jeeps

The government has taken steps to import 400 vehicles, including 225 Toyota Land Crusher Prado jeeps, in the wake of the economic crisis caused by the Covid epidemic Lankasara learns. According to the sources while ambulances, water bowsers and double cabs are being imported due to the current emergency situation, preliminary work is underway to import these 225 vehicles.
It is reported that these vehicles will be imported under a lease facility obtained from the Bank of Ceylon and the payment of the relevant lease installments to be handed over to the Secretary to the Treasury. According to these sources, the government is preparing to import these vehicles on the basis of the 180 – day facility provided for letters of Credit in effect, and the Bank of Ceylon has already agreed to offer an annual interest rate of 7.5 percent for the lease.
Their vehicles include 50 Toyota Hiace ambulances, 50 Hino water bowsers, 50 Toyota Hilux double cabs and 225 Toyota Land Crusher jeeps. The local agent Toyota Lanka is currently working on the deal and they have agreed to supply four water bowsers, 19 double cabs and 04 Pado jeeps free of charge, the sources said.
Sources speculate that these luxury jeeps would be allocate for Parliamentarians.
