The Anti-Terrorism Act which was scheduled to be submitted to the parliament today (25) has to be delayed for a few more weeks, says the Minister of Justice, Wijeyadasa Rajapakshe.
The Minister claimed that the decision was taken after a discussion with President Ranil Wicramasinghe due to the fact the president has been under pressure due to the nature of the said Act.
Meanwhile, Member of Parliament Shan Vijayalal de Silva mentioned that there are various conflicts of opinion within the government party itself regarding the contents of the Anti-Terrorism Act.
This morning (25), Parliament convened for the first time since the New Year.
Today under the Code of Criminal Procedure Act, the Gazzete published under No. 2217/28 on January 30, 2023, is to be debated.
Additionally, according to the Minister of State for Finance, Ranjith Siyambalapitiya the proposal regarding the arrangements to be implemented under the International Monetary Fund’s Extended Fund Facility will be debated for three days from tomorrow (26) to the 28th.
The president has informed the members of the government party to continue to participate in the IMF debate and according to parliamentary sources, there is a possibility of holding a vote on the bill after the debate.
